Shooting Range—the Best Way to Practice

A shooting range is undoubtedly the best and safest way to practice and brush up shooting skills for carriers, law enforcement personnel, and military individuals. A shooting range protects from all external interference in a safe, controlled environment.

         Shooting Range Practice—the Importance

Shooting range practice is as important for the officials as it is for the citizens and normal gun carriers. The time you spend practicing in the shooting range determines your competence with the weapon and its usage when required. If you don’t practice with the rounds, the distance of shooting, and managing the arc movement of the bullet, you won’t be able to use the weapon to full effectiveness.

Various states in the United States of America require the carriers to have some firearms training and certification before buying a weapon. These courses included the shooting range practices and may ask you to score a certain number for passing the certification. To accomplish this—you must go to shooting ranges to increase your shooting accuracy.

Similarly, it is important for law enforcement personnel to spend large fractions of their time in indoor shooting ranges and then carry their expertise to the outdoor ranges where the wind and weather tend to interfere frequently. It is a common perception in forces that the more you practice—the better your chances of surviving a lethal confrontation or a shootout.

Shooting Range—how often should you visit one?

Practice is like cake at a birthday party—the more, the merrier. Though it depends on the skill development of people and their abilities—ideally, once or twice a week is a good number to keep up with the shooting skills while getting better every time.

It is recommended that to have a complete command of the skill, a person must practice regularly like an athlete practices their talents regularly. But of course, everyone can’t devote a large part of their time every day to a hobby. So, visiting a shooting range twice a week or so is the ideal approach.

         Gun Training—What’s It Like?

          The key component of

            firearm training

is to provide sufficient information on handling the weapon and the decision of when to handle it.

Firearm training courses may include topics such as firearm operation and safe handling of the weapon. It may include the science and dynamics of a firearm, the safety procedures for cleaning and maintenance, laws and regulations, and best practices for keeping weapons away from children and other people.

So why is gun training important, and why do so many people speak in favor of it?

Reasons Why Gun Training is Necessary

We believe the top reasons for gun training can be categorized into three parts:

         Safety:

We’ve placed this in the number one position because this is the root cause of the whole thing. Safety is why a person opts to carry a gun. Safety is also the reason why a person opposes the idea of carrying a lethal weapon. So in a way, everything comes down to this particular reason.

Safety training teaches firearm owners about the dos and don’ts of carrying a weapon. There are certain procedures for handling, cleaning, or maintaining a firearm that must be known for ensuring safety in a household environment.

         Education

There are several different kinds of firearms with different technicalities. People must be educated about the different parts, functions, and operations of the firearm they own. Education also refers to the decision an individual has to take about using a weapon. The firearm owners need to assess and understand the situation before using their weapons.

         The Basics of Shooting

The shooting range is a safe place for you to give your weapon a try without threatening anyone’s safety. Learning the basics in a training course will help you improve accuracy to save bullets and collateral damage.

The Responsibilities That Come With Owning a Gun

All gun owners should take specific precautions to ensure that their firearms are used safely, properly kept, and not fall into the wrong hands. If you are a gun owner, make sure you’re aware of the responsibilities that come with owning a gun.

Keep Your Fingers Off The Trigger Until You Are Prepared To Fire

Even if you’re sure that the gun is empty and locked, never place your finger on the trigger and keep it outside the trigger guard until the pistol is ready to fire. Even though it is generally pleasant, it is not safe to rest your finger within the trigger guard due tothe possibility of accidentally pressing the trigger. You may prevent accidental discharges by keeping your hands on the handle.

When not directed at the intended target, a loaded gun should always be pointed in a safe direction. This entails holding the pistol down the majority of the time with the barrel pointed downward. Gun owners should never aim a gun towards another person, even if they are joking due to the risk of unintentional discharges. Additionally, avoid aiming the pistol in the air in case an accidental discharge shoots the bullet into the air. And when it comes to gun storage, the ideal orientation is for the barrel to be pointing straight up or straight down, away from any danger.

Each firearm should be handled as if it were loaded, and if you must touch it for any reason, always check to verify it is not loaded. Never presume it has been emptied previously, even if you are aware that unloading it before storing it in your gun storage vault is always your procedure. If you are uncertain how to inspect a specific gun, consult an expert to avoid an accident. The most important guideline of gun safety for gun owners is to respect all firearms in your vicinity and handle them as if they are loaded and ready to shoot.

  1. Eye and ear protection

Protection is important for every shooter, especially for those who are new to it. Make sure you do not deviate from the protective precautions requested by your trainers. If you have especially sensitive hearing, opt for additional soundproof earmuffs for optimum protection. Protective eyewear is essential as you need to shield your eyes from getting hit by hot casings or other bits and pieces while firing.

  2. Do your homework

Make sure to read the training manual ahead of your training to understand the layout of your firearm course. The manual will be helpful for you to understand what to expect from the training. It will also help you realize what questions or confusions you might have related to the training, so you could ask them during the training. Additionally, you will join your training session with much more confidence if you have some prior knowledge about the weapon, facility, and the session.

  3. Dress comfortably

Firstly, you need to dress in a way which you find comfortable. Secondly, the shirt, pants, and vest you choose need to have plenty of pockets to offer storage space for the ammo.

  4. Food and drinks

Try to abstain from any alcoholic beverages as they may impair your skills. If your training facility does not provide food and drinks, bring your own, as it is important to stay full and hydrated throughout the session.

  5. Holster belt

Wearing belts and holsters is a safe way to store your gun without having to put it away in storage. Carrying a gun around is never recommended by weapon experts. Every gun owner also needs the practice of removing a gun from the holster in case of an emergency. Hence, bring a holster to the training and practice keeping the gun in it during your firearm training session.

For many first-time buyers, the ideal choice of a gun is a pistol or a handgun as they’re compact, easily manageable, and can be store away. But that’s not all you have to look into. Understand why you’re purchasing the gun in the first place. Your purpose matters a lot. Is it for self-defense, is it for hunting, or is it purely a collector thing?

Proper gun safety courses are going to help you learn how to handle your gun, how to use it, and how to keep it functioning and in good shape. Store the firearm in a proper storage box preferably a gun box; this is critical in ensuring the safety of your firearm and your family.

  1. Maintain your weapon

Although this philosophy varies from gun to gun and shooter to shooter, the majority of experts claim that the most accurate gun when it comes to shooting at long ranges is the clean gun. Generally, girls using a higher grade of materials within the barrel like to be shot cleaner.

Mostly, this is related to the finely crafted barrels’ tolerances. Other guns like Beretta pistols, AR15s, and

        Glocks

can be shot quite accurately even when they’re dirty. Why? They have a high tolerance for fouling.

Our recommendation is, conduct range sessions with your weapon when it’s clean and when it isn’t—it’ll work as a great trial and error process. However, don’t let your gun become too dirty; otherwise, the long-range accuracy will be affected.

  2. Find the right gun for your style

Generally, it’s easier to shoot rifles in the .223 and .260 range. Plus, because their recoil is mild, bad habits like jerking the trigger and flinching are eliminated. There’s a reason why our US servicemen are trained on

        .223 caliber AR15s

. Their recoil is mild, isn’t excessively loud, and pretty accurate. If you want to find a gun that works for you, go to a well-equipped indoor range and shoot a variety of guns.

  3. Develop your own style

Work with a professional instructor and a good gun range to learn trigger fundamentals, grip, and create a repeatable stance that’ll prepare you for long-range accuracy.

This will help you hone your skills—just make sure you don’t drift away from those fundamentals. If you’re a handgun shooter, they may mean mastering the grip on the gun and a specific stance. However, if you’re a rifle shooter, it’s important to master trigger manipulation and breath control.

  4. Invest in rounds

Replenishment if spent rounds are probably the biggest ongoing expense of a shooter—but it’s essential. With proper maintenance, guns can last for a lifetime. So, rounds are the only real continual expense. Instead of investing in gadget add-ons for your weapon, buy plenty of practice rounds—practice will make you mesh with your gun better, which will improve your long-range accuracy.

With so many types of ammunition and firearms, it’s difficult to choose the best ammunition for your gun – but getting it right is very important. If you don’t choose the right ammunition for your firearm, you can cause an injury, an explosion, or even end up killing yourself or the people around you.

Our firearms training expert in Wyoming is offering 4 tips to match the proper ammunition to your firearm.

  1. Select top brands

Don’t compromise on quality when choosing ammunition. There is a plethora of top brands available, so do your research before purchasing anything.

  2. Consider quantity and price

Have you decided on the type of ammo you need? If yes, it’s now time to set a budget. Depending on how much you need, you can purchase cheap ammo in bulk, case, or box quantity. Well, try to look at the process of purchasing ammo as if you’re applying for an insurance policy where you decide how much coverage you need. Compared to home defense and larger caliber ammo, regular range and smaller caliber ammo are quite inexpensive.

  3. Don’t forget the grain weight

Don’t be confused; grain is nothing but the bullet’s weight. When fired, the

        grain weight

impacts how fast the bullet will travel. Because a lower grain wouldn’t have much weight pressure, and its knock-down power won’t be great. However, it’ll travel faster when shot. Whereas a higher grain would have more weight pressure, but it wouldn’t travel as fast.

  4. Caliber or bullet size

Here are some gun safety basics you can learn.

Point the gun in a safe direction

Making sure the gun isn’t pointed at someone you don’t intend to shoot can significantly reduce the risk of an accident. When loading or unloading, the rule stays the same; point the muzzle in a safe direction.

or dry firing is possible during loading and unloading; not aiming the muzzle at anyone while loading and unloading can help you avoid unfortunate accidents.

A gun isn’t a toy, and it’s essential to learn how to store, carry and use it properly. Not all firearms are the same, and each gun has different handling and carrying method. Thoroughly understand and familiarize yourself with your firearm. Knowing the type, its components, the mechanical aspects of your firearm is vital for safe handling. Read the instruction provided by the manufacturer to the tee. This is a weapon you’re dealing with; it requires total commitment to safety. If you’re still unsure, enroll in a firearms training course.

When you’re traveling with a firearm, it’s best to document everything and bring it along. You should print out TSA’s policy of traveling with a firearm, take pictures of your container, your gun, and your luggage before you check in. If your luggage looks suspicious after you’ve picked it up after the flight, take pictures again before you open it. Moreover, in case you’re questioned at the airport by the TSA, it’s best to have your gun permit with you to avoid any unpleasant situations.

Gun-related deaths are now the third most leading cause of child deaths in America. For this reason, we’re educating you with tips to become a new and responsible gun owner.

  1. Define your need

What’s the purpose for you purchasing this firearm? This is possibly the first and foremost question you’ll get once you mention to almost anyone that you’re planning on buying your first ever firearm.

You must have a valid answer when a firearm expert asks the very same question to help you track down the perfect gun for you. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of different manufacturers, calibers, sizes, and styles from rifles, pistols, and shotguns in the market.

For example, if your intended purpose for the firearm is self-defense and concealed carry, you’re most likely going to find something small that fits the bill.

  2. Find the perfect match

Unlike many other purchases you make at the mall or an e-commerce store, you can’t rely solely on the product description and customer reviews when purchasing a firearm. You’ll need to work with a firearm expert to get an idea about the gun’s feel and fit.

It’s also good practice if you physically try and hit the range before sealing the deal. Alternatively, you can practice at a firearm training institute with different makes and models to see which gun fits you best.

  3. Get done with the paperwork

Once you’ve found your perfect match, it’s time to get to the documentation testifying to the legality of the arms sale. You’ll need a valid driver’s license containing the right information and a supplementary ID such as a government-issued ID card or one from an institute or organization you’re currently enrolled in. After an extensive background check, the firearm should be issued to you.

Disclaimer: Your request will be rejected if you’re not a US citizen, have a mental illness, or have a criminal record (i.e., are a convicted criminal)

  4. Figure storage options

Now that you’ve become the owner of a firearm, you’ll have to figure out the options you have to store it safely. A handgun holster will restrict any undesired movement of the handgun, while a lockbox or gun safe will be able to keep it out of reach of unwanted hands.

Ask the salesmen regarding any cleaning devices or kits you may need to maintain your gun or ammunition.

  5. Practice

There’s always a first time for everything. You’ll need to get to practice to get comfortable with the gun and understand its functionality.

Owning a firearm comes with a sense of safety, but there’s always a risk of the gun being misused and accidentally set off. In 2020, there were at least 92 unintentional deaths and 135 injuries caused by guns.

Here are some of general rules you should be following if you own firearms:

  1. Point It In a Safe Direction

When not in use, the firearm should be pointing at a place where unintentional firing can’t hurt anyone. Pointing it at the ground is usually a safe option.

Make it a point to be aware of your surroundings at all times and ensuring that no one is in the line of sight. This is a standard lesson in firearms training.

  2. Keep The Firearm Unloaded

At any time, when you’re not planning to use your firearm, make sure that it’s unloaded. The ammunition and the firearm should be separated from each other whenever possible to ensure maximum safety.

It’s a good practice to unload the firearm before entering a place with other people. Just to be sure, and to be in charge of the situation, check the firearm yourself; don’t assume that it’s unloaded and don’t take anyone else’s word for it.

  3. Wear Protection When Using A Firearm

The safety standards aren’t just for others, they are also for you. The loud sound and high speed force a bullet leaves behind can be very dangerous for the one firing the bullet.

Using ear and eye protection is essential for anyone who is using a gun. People who are exposed to a gunshot at close range without protection can suffer from tinnitus and hearing loss, which is too heavy a price for a few hours of hunting.

All firearm training classes make sure that their students are provided with the necessary equipment.

  4. Keep Away From Children

Children are used to watching guns being fired in movies and TV shows. Additionally, some cartoons desensitize them to violence, and several gun-shaped toys make using a gun feel natural to them.

Make sure to keep firearms in safes or out of the home at a location where children won’t accidentally stumble upon them.

It’s always better to err on the side of caution. Getting trained by professionals who know the proper firearm etiquette will help ensure your safety and the safety of everyone around you.

The gun laws in Wyoming are very strict, which is why getting a firearms training course is recommended.

any corner. The homicide rate in the US is up significantly in 2020, along with a number of unimaginable violent felonies.

Under the US constitution, it’s your civic right to carry a firearm. The second amendment protects your right to bear arms as long as you have a proper license.

Here are a few of the most compelling reasons you should have a concealed weapon on your person at all times.

         Protect Yourself and Others

Carrying a gun with you won’t ever let you be a victim of petty or violent crimes, both. From home invasions to mugging, firearms will help you protect yourself in any context. A gun will also help you protect those around you, including your family. Lawfully carrying a weapon could help save several lives— your family, yourself, and those around you. Various incidents have been documented of heroic citizens carrying concealed weapons and being able to save the lives of innocent strangers through intervention. If you ever find yourself or your family in a compromising position, your firearm will be your saving grace.

You never know what could happen, so better safe than sorry.

         Empower Yourself

Nothing is more empowering than knowing you can protect yourself and those around you. Although taking a number of martial arts and self-defense classes can help soothe your paranoia, there’s not much you can do when a violent attacker is pointing a weapon at you. Carrying your own firearms ensures confidence to face everyday life, without the fear of becoming a victim.

Law enforcement isn’t always around. When your life is under threat— you can’t wait around two minutes for a response from the authorities. Every second matters. A firearm equalizes threats— so it doesn’t matter if you’re a heavy-weight champion or a scrawny adult, you’ll be able to protect and empower yourself.

         Be More Alert and Responsible

When you’re carrying a firearm, you’re more responsible. Knowing that you have a deadly weapon on your person will help you remain more aware and alert of your surroundings. When carrying a firearm, you know to behave in such a way that won’t harm yourself or threaten those around you.

Responsible citizens are very vigilant when carrying concealed firearms. They’re more aware of their surroundings, recognizing suspicious behavior and unusual activity immediately. Concealed carriers also avoid run-ins with the police since it could lead to complications. They adhere more closely to speed limits, act more deliberately, making them more responsible.

By their nature, guns have the potential to be used to harm unnecessarily. It’s unfortunate, but it’s also something we need to accept. This doesn’t mean that guns are inherently evil or bad.

Whether a gun is used to harm or defend depends on who handles the gun. Many of us would use weapons to defend ourselves, our family, or our friends, rather than to needlessly hurt others. If defense is your goal, you need some training with firearms, so here are some firearm training basics.

. For instance, you need to wear the correct equipment (eye and ear protection) to protect your ears, etc. Depending on the gun you’re shooting, you could rupture your eardrum without proper protection. Additionally, it also involves using the correct ammunition, pointing the gun away from everyone, and loading and reloading.

  Shooting

Though not necessarily the first step, shooting is a major part of firearm training is learning, and it typically occurs in five steps. First, you learn to aim and get used to the gun’s iron sights and how well they map on to a target.

Second, you learn to breathe while aiming and what’s the ideal moment to shoot. Generally, you’ll find one of two moments the most stable and comfortable for shooting. The first is after inhaling (and partly exhaling). The second is the brief period after exhaling and before inhaling. Your gun will sway the least at these two moments.

Third, you learn to hold your aim on and track the target. This step involves guiding your shots, which is useful when aiming at a moving target. Essentially, you aim at where your target will be in the time it takes your shot to travel.

Fourth, you learn to, finally, shoot the gun. As simple as this may seem, there are still intricacies to shoot. For instance, avoidjerking the trigger as that can cause the gun to move before you get your shot off. Instead, put steady pressure on the trigger until the gun fires.

Fifth, you learn to follow through with the shot. This step involves maintaining even pressure on the trigger after firing and getting acquainted with and used to the recoil.

  Storage

This part of training is also critical to safety, but it’s only useful for people who plan to keep a gun in their home. Storage training involves teaching people where you can safely store a gun and how to store it to make sure it isn’t a threat. Storage also involves gun maintenance and cleaning training.

Many new gun owners undermine the importance of training. There’s a reason why law enforcement and military individuals continue to practice shooting even after earning their titles.

Many people question the effectiveness of pistol training because real-life scenarios can’t accurately be replicated in the class.

Most of us don’t know how to stay calm in dangerous situations. Sure, you may have learned the technique, but can you stay in control of your emotions and actions when your life is under threat?

Pistol training usually involves physical exercises where you’re put in stressful scenarios and have to take action. You’ll learn to cope with danger when you least expect it; this is what makes pistol training crucial.

During your training session, you’ll also learn about all the things that can go wrong when you’re trying to take a shot. Malfunctions happen, and when they do, you need to have a backup plan.

Wyoming firearms laws operate on an “Unrestricted” and “Shall Issue” policy. Residents are legally entitled to possess a firearm without any permit. The firearm can be either concealed or open. However, non-residents must obtain a permit that Wyoming honors to conceal carry in the state.

         Concealed carry permits

In Wyoming, the Attorney General issues the concealed carry permits through the local Sheriff’s office. As per the regulation, the application must be processed 90 days from the date it has been received. There are specific requirements that an applicant needs to meet to qualify for concealed carry permits.

Legal Requirements to Tell Law Enforcement About the Firearm

As per Wyoming gun laws, an individual is under no legal obligation to tell law enforcement that they are carrying a firearm. However, the person must have a valid ID and permit at all times when carrying a concealed handgun and shall be willing to produce these documents upon demand by a police and law enforcement officer.

         “No Weapons Allowed” Signs Enforced?

According to Wyoming gun laws, the “No Weapons Allowed” signs is enforceable, which means that a person possessing a firearm shall not enter private property or business with No Weapons” signs. A person who breaches the law is guilty of criminal trespass, which is a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment, fine, or both.

Any individual who legally own a firearm can carry a firearm inside a vehicle, but there’s a slight difference. Wyoming residents can carry a concealed firearm inside a vehicle. Non-residents, on the other hand, must have a permit to carry a concealed firearm in a vehicle. They are also allowed to carry a firearm in state parks, state and national forests, and roadside rest areas.

(CDC), in the last five years, there have been 161,374 unintentional deaths in the US due to the mishandling of firearms. It doesn’t matter if you’re at a shooting range or caught in a self-defense situation of life and death, you need to follow these seven safe gun handling rules so that you ensure safety at all times.

Rule # 1: Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction

It’s the most fundamental safety rule. If everyone handled a gun with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, there won’t ever be any unintentional accidents. Never point your gun at a direction that you don’t intend to shoot in. It’s essential when you load your gun because accidental discharges can happen any time.

Rule # 2: Keep your gun unloaded when not in use

Only load your gun if you’re in a shooting range. After you’re done shooting, unload your gun immediately. Never keep a loaded gun anywhere. When not in use, store your unloaded gun safely, away from the reach of children.

Rule # 3: Know your target and beyond

Ensure that you’re entirely aware of your target shooting area. It is doubly vital that you know what’s beyond your target. It’s safe if you’re in an indoor shooting range. If you’re shooting outdoors, make sure that no one’s behind the target or in the line of shooting, to prevent mishaps.

Rule # 4: Use Correct Ammunition

Only pellets, shells or cartridges are made for guns to shoot safely. If you’re unsure of the ammunition type, check the barrel. It’s usually stamped on it. If not, the box would identify it. Refrain from firing if you don’t know or don’t have the correct ammunition.

Rule # 5: If your gun fails to fire, handle it with care

Sometimes, when you pull the trigger, the gun may not fire. If that happens, follow rule # 1, open the action, and carefully throw the cartridge away. If the cartridge is in the chamber, the gun is loaded, and the trigger is pulled, it may go off anytime. Ensure that you’re careful.

Rule # 6: Always wear eye and ear protection

Shooting ranges are loud and damage your hearing. While shooting, the gun may also eject shells and gases that could injure your eye. Therefore, ensure that you wear shooting glasses and ear protection.

  Rule # 7: Regular cleaning

Regularly cleaning your gun increases its life and maintains its value. Before you begin cleaning, ensure that your gun is unloaded, there is no ammunition in it, and the gun’s action is open.

every day in the US, there’s no doubt that women need more protection.

However, in order to carry weapons for self-defense, women need to be aware of concealed carry for firearms. Here are some reasons why women can benefit from concealed carry.

  Preparation

The practice of concealed carry enables women to have arms on them while they’re in a vulnerable position. Keeping weapons concealed prevents attracting the attention of potential perpetrators and allows women to safeguard their life and integrity independently.

This way, not only do you protect yourself but also others around you if need be. Firearm training emphasizes heavily on the need and importance of concealed carry. With a certificate course, women will be on their way to becoming their own guardians.

  Better Protection

Having a weapon hidden in your bag or your coat offers a sense of safety and relief. Traveling through rough neighborhoods or during late hours can make you feel vulnerable.

Carrying the means to defend yourself in a concealed manner allows you to be prepared for any unfortunate event in a legally-compliant manner.

  Confident and Invulnerable

Your body language and demeanor says a lot about what you’re thinking. Women are often perceived as weak and vulnerable when they’re feeling fearful of predators lurking in the shadows. This is why it’s important to square your shoulders and raise your chin, even when you’re feeling scared because

your body language can give it away.

However, what inspires confidence to do that is having a weapon on you for protection. Knowing that you have means of protecting yourself truly empowers you when you’re alone on the streets.

Having a concealed firearm makes you constantly aware of potential threats in your surroundings. Your sensory receptors become extra alert when you know you’ll have a chance to save your life and property.

A heightened awareness of the situation you’re in works well in your favor because you can expect an attack before it happens. This allows you to process the situation faster and react promptly. Our training will also teach you enhanced tactical skills that further hone your awareness of the surrounding.

While law enforcement agencies are ideal intermediaries, we Americans have always believed that personal safety should not be entirely trusted to others. It’s true that the government and the police are always working to protect us; however, it’s important to take safety measures ourselves as well.

A common misconception among the general populace is that concealed carry laws increase crime. However, the fact is that

            crime is significantly higher

in states that don’t have right-to-carry laws. Concealed carrying has a multitude of benefits, the most prominent of which, perhaps, is that it allows you to protect yourself – and others around you – from victimization.

However, it’s worth noting that you need to have a permit and the right training to carry a handgun. To start you off, here are some dos and don’ts of concealed carrying that you should be aware of.

         Do
Understand the Laws Regarding Concealed Carrying

In addition to knowing how to safely operate firearms, you should also have a thorough understanding of the legal system that regulates the possession of firearms. Being found in possession of an unauthorized gun can land you in serious trouble with the law. Therefore, make sure that you’re well-informed about the laws and regulations regarding concealed carrying in your estate. To get firsthand, authentic information, you can always speak to law enforcement personnel.

         Do
        Understand Your Responsibilities

Those who have a concealed carry license should always remember that the state permitted them to carry a handgun so they can practice self-defense and self-defense only. You cannot use your firearm to threaten those around you or carry out violent crimes. In addition to being a social evil, this can land you in serious legal trouble. Therefore, always be mindful of your responsibilities.

         Don’t
        Leave Your Firearms Lying Around

This is perhaps the biggest security risk that stems from handgun possession. The consequences can be disastrous if they fall into the wrong hands. Therefore, always make sure that your weapons are stored safely when you’re not carrying them on your person.

         Don’t
         Carry Firearms without Safety Training

A gun is a complex machine, and it’s important to learn how to carry and operate it safely so the physical risk is minimized. This is where gun safety training comes into play. In addition to teaching you how to safely handle and carry your firearm, gun safety training also makes you proficient at using it.

Unlike the common misconception, tactical training isn’t just for the police and the military personnel. In fact, it can be quite beneficial for civilians as well.

In times of law and order disturbances, you won’t always have a policeman by your side. In such situations you’re responsible for your survival and for the safety of your family.

However, to best understand why tactical shooting training is important, you can look at reasons why the defense forces are trained under them.

  1.

        Taking up responsibility

Tactical training enables civilians to take up responsibility when there’s no one to defend them. Independent defense is the best form of protection when you’re alone and in danger.

Needless to say, it’s a survival skill as well. Unexpected circumstances can arise any day without warning and then it’ll be too late to learn how to shoot. Thus,

it’s better to sweat in peace than bleed in war.

  2.

        Increasing knowledge

Merely holding firearms ceremoniously is not enough to protect you from adversaries. In order to make use of them, you need to know how to operate them. And unlike the fictitious action sequences in movies, no one learns to lift a rifle and pull the trigger in one go.

You need to be properly trained for that before you can use it to your benefit. Tactical shooting knowledge can come in handy any time when you’re least expecting it to. And even if it doesn’t, it never hurts to acquire knowledge.

In times of danger, you won’t have time to go through a quick guide and learning how to use in no time. It takes a long time to properly train and practice handling firearms. This is a life skill that you should invest in while you have the time and energy to do so; it can prevent you from losing things dear to you!

Visiting a gun range is an experience in itself. First-time shooters are quite apprehensive about using a gun initially. There’s nothing to be afraid about; however, gun ranges do have a set of rules and etiquettes that need to be followed.

We’ve put together a guide for those visiting a shooting range for the first time:

         Use a gun case

A gun case, whether it’s a soft or hard one, is beneficial to use. First-time shooters won’t feel as self-conscious when carrying a firearm into a new place. It’s always a smart move to keep your weapon concealed. When walking through the front door with an exposed weapon, employees at the gun range will stay alert.

Use the case as much as possible, what we mean by that is that you open it up once you’re at the firing line. Set the case on the table so that the weapon is pointing downrange when you’re getting ready. Remember to place your gun back in the case whenever it’s not being used.

         Wear a tight collared shirt

Semi-automatic weapons eject a spent brass casing after every shot. Due to the pressure within a gun, these cases are really hot. Since gun ranges are closed off, it’s very likely that these brass cases bounce off the ceiling and walls. They can land anywhere in your shooting booth. We, therefore, recommend visitors to wear tight-collared shirts to prevent these casings from ending up in their shirts and causing burns.

         Invest I cloth tape

Shooting a gun is no joke. Long shooting sessions can cause your hands to blister due to the constant abrasion. Cloth tape is essential for athletes; they use it for their ankles and to improve their grip too. This tape does a great job at protecting the damaged and sore skin so you can comfortably go through your entire shooting practice.

         Wear closed shoes and socks

A shooting practice must be treated as any other sporting event for which you require appropriate gear. Other than tight-collared shirts, remember always to wear protective shoes and socks. Not only does this protect your legs from hot brass casings, but it also gives you the support you require. It’s also a good way to build a habit of preparing well before a shooting practice, whether it’s outdoors or on a range.

         Ear and eye protection

Protecting your ears and eyes is particularly important when practicing. The loud bang of a gunshot is loud enough to cause damage to your inner ear. The protective glasses protect you from any debris that might get launched during practice as well as from the casings of the bullets.

Dry firing involves practicing shooting with an unloaded firearm. It involves drills that focus on safe weapon handling and effective weapon manipulation.

Here, at Gladiators Firearms Training, we’re big advocates of dry firing and often recommend dry fire exercises to new students for home to help them master the basic shooting fundamental skillsets.

Below are four exercises that our students love the most:

  1) Practicing the grip

Becoming a perfect shooter starts with developing the perfect grip. If you don’t know how to correctly hold a firearm, you’ll never become a good shooter. Unfortunately, most people we observe at the range have a terrible grip.

You can improve your grip by practicing at home.

Remember to get as much of your skin contacting the firearm as possible; there should be no gaps.

  2) Sight alignment

You must train your dominant eye to take an accurate aim. It’s just like training your biceps to lift loads.

Mark a point on a wall. Stand few feet away from it. Draw your weapon and aim for the point. Narrow your focus, so you’re only concentrating at the point with your dominant eye. Do this regularly at different distances.

  3) Drawing the firearm

Your draw should be flawless. It should be quick; it should be nice and smooth.

Practice drawing firearm from a holster, both covered and uncovered.

  4) Changing the magazine

The aim is to develop your muscle memory to build up your accuracy and speed when changing the magazine.

The drill is simple. Stand in a room. Eject a magazine from your firearm. Draw another one from your mag pouch. Insert it into the firearm.

So what do you say? Will you be adding dry fire training to your firearms practice routine?

Hello fellow shooters! How is life going? Quite busy at the range, we guess? Good; you must train hard in order to continue improving and get even better.

Well, we want to take a few moments of your time and discuss something very important. We don’t feel many people talk about this aspect of firearms training and it’s high time that they start doing so. We’re referring to first aid kits.

Do you carry a first aid kit to your firearm training class?

Importance of carrying first aid kid to firearms training class

We all are well-aware that firearm training can be dangerous. And to avoid any accidents or injuries at the shooting range, we make sure we exercise the necessary principles of safe firearms handling during training.

But let’s be honest, no amount of due diligence can completely eliminate the risk of accidents from the training equation. And so, all we can do is be prepared.

Yes, we know that every school has trauma gear available on site. But what if on a day, it’s not there? What will do you then?

Then there is another thing that you need to be wary of.

First aid kits have expiry dates. When was the last time you checked your school’s trauma gear box to see if the contents are still fresh?

We know that training schools are not irresponsible, and they keep their first aid kits up-to-date, but they are human after all; negligence can always find a way in.

It’s, therefore, imperative that you carry a first aid kit with you to firearms training class.

What should be in your first aid kit?

  First aid kit contents

First aid kits come in all shapes and sizes. For firearms training, we recommend buying a kit that at least has these bare minimums to address an emergency situation:

The basic idea is to have items that can help you control bleeding for 3–6 minutes or more depending on the response time of EMS.

Also, you must get proper training on how to use the items inside your first aid kit. If you have a fully equipped kit but don’t know how to use it, that won’t do you much good now, would it?

                    And that’s all for today.

                    Train hard and be safe!
